telepathy/opt out permissions
cole is a spirit of compassion whose abilities allow him to read the minds of others, especially those thoughts that pertain to sadness, grief and trauma. He wants to help people through their pain, but sometimes this also means spouting out some very personal details to them out of the blue. characters reacting with anger, threats and dismissals it absolutely a-ok and it happens in canon literally all the time.
he will absolutely not read the minds of characters whose players do not want to be involved with him, not will he say anything that he is not expressly given permission to. which is why i'm making this handy dandy form, and i'd appreciate it if you'd fill it out if you were interested in playing with cole! thank you very much.
do you give permission for cole to read your character's mind?: yes? great! continue on. if not, no need to fill out the rest of this. alternatively, if cole is unable to read your character's mind due to mental barriers and such, let me know.
what sorts of traumatic canon events would be pick up on about your character?: feel free to be as specific as you like. actually, the more specific, the better! also feel free to include quotes and such, because he has the tendency to parrot those back at people sometimes.
is there anything you absolutely do NOT want brought up?: let me know.
is there anything you specifically want him to bring up?: for plotting purposes or such! if not, feel free to erase this bit.
thank you very much for reading this long ass post!!! it kind of got away from my, i'm sorry...

finally, cole's personal backstory contains trigger warnings for child abuse, possible graphic depictions of murder and depression. he is also a character from a fairly new canon that was just released last month. if you would like to opt out of interacting with him full stop, please feel free to let me know. no questions asked, no reason needed.
thank you very much for reading this long ass post!!! it kind of got away from my, i'm sorry...
Luke (spoilery canon deets dropped here)
what sorts of traumatic canon events would be pick up on about your character?: Luke's un-fun moments under Carver's roof, plunging through the ice and all its consequences, Nick's death, all the good people he left the cabin with not making it.
is there anything you absolutely do NOT want brought up?: Nothing that I can think of?
is there anything you specifically want him to bring up?: Anything that seems relevant to the situation at hand, if you think Cole would point it out. You'd know best!
Rick Grimes [Spoilers for TWD TV stuff]
what sorts of traumatic canon events would be pick up on about your character?: Rick Grimes' life sort of qualities as a traumatic event. Waking up from a coma in a world full of zombies, killing tiny zombie Sophia, murdering his best friend, his wife dying, his dead wife then following him around for a season, thinking his baby was dead, nearly being forced to watch his son raped and killed for something he did... Just to name a few. Honestly, anything canon is fair game.
is there anything you absolutely do NOT want brought up?: Nope.
Nick | The Walking Dead Game
what sorts of traumatic canon events would be pick up on about your character?: AHAHA. Well, you know these but:
Pre-dating the apocalypse:
- Nick's dad was mostly absent, but when he was around he was abusive
- The hunting story about the 13 point buck with Uncle Pete. (Hell, dealing with Pete putting him down all the time in general. All in the name of making Nick a "man"!)
During the apocalypse:
- Losing his friends and everyone else he grew up with
- Having to shoot his mom, who was bitten by a walker
- Watching walkers devour his uncle right in front of him
- Shooting Matthew on the bridge ("I wish I hadn't pulled that trigger" or his apology to Walter for doing it.)
- Watching Luke get beaten up by Carver
- Walking/running through the walker horde
is there anything you absolutely do NOT want brought up?: Nah, have at it!
is there anything you specifically want him to bring up?: Anything would be great!
If you wanna pull more specific quotes, I got an audio clip of his talk with Clem in his profile here! c:

what sorts of traumatic canon events would be pick up on about your character?: You should know all these things about them LMAO

is there anything you specifically want him to bring up?: I love terrible things. Seriously, go nuts.
Venus
what sorts of traumatic canon events would be pick up on about your character?: That she killed her family on accident when her powers manifested.
is there anything you absolutely do NOT want brought up?: Childhood sexual abuse is hinted at in her canon.
is there anything you specifically want him to bring up?: Not sure, we'll see how it goes!
She's the only one of mine still alive this Arena.
Roland Deschain | The Dark Tower
what sorts of traumatic canon events would be pick up on about your character?: What would be most on his mind would be what happened to him at the end of his canon. I've taken a certain spoilery thing and decided it means some of his memories would be blurry, but he would remember fulfilling his life's purpose, and he would remember that it was terrifying. Associated images would be a tall black tower in a field of red roses, and a doorway with dust blowing out through it.
Susannah in-game recently ended up at district 13, which means he'll be thinking a lot about how they parted in canon, the last time she left him. Which involves her driving a little motorized buggy through a doorway connected to nothing, and the only important quote from that is him saying, 'wait!'.
I can provide plenty of other things, as pretty much everyone who's ever been important to him has met a dramatic and tragic end, but if I listed them all we'd be here all day.
is there anything you absolutely do NOT want brought up?: nope
is there anything you specifically want him to bring up?: nope
Initiate | Warn for violence, murder, neglect, child soldiers, dubious consensual elements and more.
what sorts of traumatic canon events would be pick up on about your character?:
-Upon hatching Initiate, as a toddler/wriggler, went through a thing called "trials" along with his hatchmates. There he was made to complete tasks and test of strength, fortitude, intelligence, and more, ultimately leading to a fight to the death, as the vast majority of his hatchmates were killed for being detriment to the empire. He watched many of them be torn apart and murder by each other, drones, and then beasts that greeted them outside.
~Specific Events: being able to feel the fears of others around him. Unknown troll child being crushed by drones. Maroonblooded child with a bad leg (he deemed a friend, called "hooks"in his mind) being torn apart by Drones. A frightened limeblood girl (called "runner" in his head) trying to attack him in her attempt to escape, then being run through by drones. Watching young trolls be eaten when a lusus failed to accept them on escaping the caverns.
-Fear of Drones themselves (refer to the above)
-His seagoat lusus (an animal guardian, bonded, meant to act as a parent) abandoned him for the sea. He was forced to mostly raise himself, hunt for himself, and the like.
~Specific Events: Waiting on the shore for the old seagoat. Trying to leave food and do more so the goat would return. Self doubt. Stealing things off of corpses (clothes, items). Scavenging, trying to hunt and fish for himself, going to the markets and stealing (leaving bone necklaces and jewelry found off corpses as a "trade"). Crippling loneliness / absence of positive contact.
-Living by the ocean put him at a high place of risk, with angry seadwellers, dangerous ocean beasts, and all the more trolls and beasts seeking out the water source, not to mention the undead who would rise during the daytime hours (when the sun was bright enough to blind and burn the living). Because his lusus was not there to protect him, he was forced to fight for his life almost every night (and day). He suffered relentless attempts by others to kill him, and many injuries for it.
~Specific Events: 1. Hiding in his hive (house), trying to stifle any noise as intruders went past, or worse. 2. First cull, feeling the fear of an intruder and knowing their intent to kill, taking a bit of heavy scripture and smashing it over their head. Imagined the Messiahs told him what to do, and to then paint his hive with the blood and so scare of intruders, as a coping mechanism. 3. Being caught by daywalkers after having accidentally left his hive door too open, and being woken up by them. Killing the daywalkers and receiving burns due to the Alternian sunlight. Henceforth making habit to tear the heads off the dead (whom were sometimes left to. 4. Being caught swimming out in the ocean by a seadweller and having his sides cut for "gills" deep enough to scar. Culling the troll and painting with his blood on the hive outside. 5. Being ruthlessly attacked off-guard by three trolls who beat, attempted to drown, pulled his hair (which will inspire bad reaction now), sliced, stabbed him, broke an arm and leg, at 13 years old. Killed them all in adrenaline rush by biting out the gills of the seadweller, gutting one of the others, and caving the final one's skull by punching. Survived by sheer luck, his species (and his own) endurance, and the help of outside forces (he believes the Demoness, a devil figure, may have come to him in his less-than-lucid state. This is possible as so he could live and fulfil his destiny in the future). 6. Many many more instances like this occurred. 7. Nearly drowning while trying to swim out after his lusus & when fishing, a sea beast tried to drag him down, leaving scars.
-Faced societal conditioning for violence and absence of empathy. Weakness is seen as death, creating a obsession with not being weak. Threat of death lays for all those who fail to fit into Empirical ideals. Being weak also means being "soft", having empathy and kindness. Those who are kind and have empathy are most easily hurt on Alternia.
~Specific Events: "Schoolfeeding", recorded bits of educational propaganda that all young trolls are given. Renewed schoolfeeding in a direct sense upon enlisting with the subjugglators (soldiers) at age 13, technically making him a child soldier. He fears kindness and empathy as a damning to him, and worries, even when he manages kindness, that it is a mistake. He believes (even still sometimes) that being a "monster" is the only way he can truly protect himself.
-Fear of abandonment and betrayal.
~Specific Events: 1. Young trolls are told that it is only natural of their species to be cruel to one another, and then betrayal is inevitable. 2. Met Kankri Vantas (the Signless) and became close friends with him, making the Signless his first and only friend (and also, a Pale Crush. For details of quadrants see here). Due to major differences in societal position, personality, and his own self doubt, Initiate began to perceive a gap growing between them. When the Signless couldn't return one day, the Initiate saw this as abandonment, taking it hard. 3. After sweeps (spans of time roughly equalling two years) of neglect, the Initiate realised finally-- when in the middle of a fight the seagoat showed but chose not to help him, instead swimming away-- that the goat did not care for him, and he took that hard also. 4. Had severe issues of trust forever after and got into a habit of trying to hurt those who would betray him before they could hurt him. (Later, in a future In-Game Initiate has not yet lived, killing the goat, taking Signless to execution, Killing the Neophyte, killing the Summoner, and more) When attempting to hurt Karkat and force the Signless to mercy kill him in the Games, Terezi went to stand between and he took it as a betrayal on her part (only later, after much fighting, to realise this was not the case. She then later helped him start on the way to overcoming these abandoment and trust issues).
-Alternia enforces concupiscent partnerships on threat of death. Failure to have concupiscent partnerships makes one fit for culling and also a horrible failure. The act of sex is done before a Drone who collects the genetic material, thus making sex a feared and not necessarily welcome thing for some. Initiate, not yet of age to have had to have fond partners wilfully chooses not to think about this or anything related to it due to this discomfort. The Capitol's bidding system feels to him as mere extension of this and while not vocally acknowledged, he perceives it as a looming threat.
-Simply being Alternian has brought him to witness countless murders, situations of abuse, and more. Conscripted as a subjugglator at 6 sweeps, 13 years, he was asked to preform many acts of cruelty himself as part of bounty hunt, empirical control, interrogation, torture, execution, all out war (including leading troops himself) and more. In all this, as well as Signless's betrayal, he has distrust of rebel-types. This was impounded by Panem's rebels in the Capitol and some of their actions (unleashing xenomorph infestation long before the current arena), but then later eased when he became a rebel himself and worked with others.
-As an Indigo, he has a power called "Chucklevoodoo", a cohesive ability to feel fear and all the more. He has taken in and contains (at least some) of the fears of everyone he's ever met (when his power was available), and retains their traumas, daymares, and then some. His mind feels as though it is overwhelmed with fear, even as he's grown well used to it, with having his power grow with age and giving him that time to gain resistance. However, he does have mental "cracks" and "holes" in his mind due to this power, and his use of it. The more this goes on, the faster he is to become eventually driven to madness. He is aware that, as his lifespan is (2000+ years) he will not live to the full of it without eventually going insane. He chooses not to think about that time.
-Trolls have varying lifespans. The Initiate will outlive essentially everyone he knows by vast quantities. He is aware that he will one day have to watch all his friends die and be left alone (adding to his inevitable madness). He, again, chooses not to think about this and secretly hopes he dies before then.
-He fears the destructive power of his own self. He has highblood strength with the ability to crush people and tear them apart. He has his voodoo which can drive people insane and cause permanent damage to the soul as well as the mind. He learned his past life had screamed his matesprit to deafness, thanks to a terrible vision that warped his soul (which is its own fear), restored only with Initiate's reincarnation. Knowing what has been done to rebels in the past, his position as a rebel in the capitol is nervewracking to him and puts all too many people he cares about at risk. But more so, as of developing better within the Capitol, he fears becoming his future self, a troll whom hurt everyone he ever cared for and did nothing but garner fear and destruction for alternia until he died.
~Specific Events: Holding the Helmsman and accidentally crushing him in his first arena. He has hurt Terezi, Signless, and others, on his fit vengeance, mirroring the actions of his future self in the early arena-- it is something he deeply regrets now. His future self is responsible for leading the Signless to execution and torture, leading the Helmsman to be straped into a helm for all time as a living battery, and then some. His future self, on finding out the Neophyte was a Sufferist rebel, he set the trial of mindfang up to fail and be turned on the Neophyte instead, where she would be executed. He killed the limebloods, thousands more trolls, and went into war against a final Sufferist rebel, whom he would get into a kismesitude with (hate romance), yet still later kill. Initiate bears the weight of all these crimes, even as he had not yet committed them.
-His world's timeline is a set path, where everything happens as it absolutely must. Deviation from this path dooms everyone in the timeline and the timeline itself. No matter what choices he might make to do right and be good in his homeworld, they would only lead to more death. He can never be allowed to be anything but a monster because it is what the timeline demands of him, and what Alternia needs to become harsher and harder, so that the descended children will be strong enough for a pre-destined task ahead. Even his alternate/past life was used in this way, when the kind child he was received a vision to warp him and change him forever, thus serving a demon then on out. Initiate questions why he might be an exception, or if he even is one at all, and if he won't fall to doom or becoming a monster again sooner or later.
-He has traumas with water/drowning. Being just a bloodcaste off from being a seadweller, he seeks the sea but cannot breathe beneath the water. He has underdeveloped fins upon his ears and no gills. He sees the shores as home, despite its hosting so many dangers, but going into the deeper waters is terrifying. He sees drowning as utter failure, salt in the wound that, were he a caste higher, it would not be possible, he have had his lusus, and all in all have been treated better (So he thinks)-- while at the same time loathing seadwellers for getting everything handed to them (in his mind) and being so pompous and irritating and not having had to fight for respect.
~Specific events: 1. many close calls of drowning with swimming after the old goat. 2. Having splits cut in his side for trying to swim. 3. Being dragged down by a sea beast while fishing. 3. The general treatment by seadwellers for even daring to live so close to the water. 4. an event in arena wherein Eridan Ampora (a seadweller) held him down and cut the faulty fins off his ears.
-Being commanded is something he is very sensitive to. He fears being manipulated ever more.
~Specific Events: With his Avoxing, he was compelled to follow command and all too terrified to disobey. 2. With changing who he was, he came to resent the Empress of Alternia and how he served her in his future, doing many of his most terrible things on her order.
-Various in-arena deaths and deaths of friends. Losing people like the Helmsman and nearly going on a rampage, or seeing his descendant and lusus taken away just as he'd come to reconcile and care for them. Terezi and many of his other friends being taken away by peacekeepers and tortured until eventual break outs were attempted. The actual event of his first avoxing, being taken into that white room and tortured, brainwashed, and made a mute (he's very aware of other avoxes and mute types, thanks to this and finding out of his mute past life, who after screaming his matesprit deaf in a nightmare vision, bit out his tongue and sewed his mouth shut. Is sensitive to being told to be quiet or shut up or any other sort of correction to his voice).
-Relating to the above, during the one attack in which his arm and leg were broken and his lusus seemed to have abandoned him, the Initiate used his fear power to such an extreme, later adding a scream of pent up hurt and anger, that his voice was forever broken. The voodoo has left scars on his mind that prevent him from speaking in a normal manner. The fluctuations cannot be stopped and it is a great struggle for him to even attempt to.
-Probably a lot more! Here's a fic of his life written for The Games, when the capitol created biographies for all. Here's the Games Wiki, still unfinished, if you want to go the full thousand miles.
is there anything you absolutely do NOT want brought up?: Anything that places doubt in his faith or questions his beliefs in the Messiahs.
Please don't bring up Insane Clown Posse.is there anything you specifically want him to bring up?: Anything at all is fair game, I'm here for it. One of the few things he has at least had vaguely adressed though is his bias against seadwellers, looking nice, and how the latter is totally okay while the former, he ought to not be biased about. He has also not addressed his lifespan and eventual madness. And finally, how we was manipulated in his future and as an avox.
Hannah Megido | bidding mention, abuse warn, suicidal ideation
what sorts of traumatic canon events would be pick up on about your character?:
-General life in District 7, having no family to calls hers
-being reaped for the games
-being harassed by other tributes before the games
-being betrayed in an alliance
-more attacks and harassment
-eventually snapping and murdering many of the tributes
-being adopted by a capitolite man who abused her endlessly and controlled her life
-being bid on by a man and then attempting to kill him
-being avoxed and serving the capitol
-Rescue by D13, only to find out they killed her adoptive father and abuser (which she wished to do herself)
-A consistent nihilism, lack of faith in humanity, and wish for death
is there anything you absolutely do NOT want brought up?: Her allegiances and motivations. I would like the to stay on the downlow as much as possible.
is there anything you specifically want him to bring up?: Naw!

what sorts of traumatic canon events would be pick up on about your character?: He was the sole survivor of a magical disaster and almost died by being torn apart from inside. He also lost Koyomi, a young woman that meant a lot to him, and she died in his arms. Those are the big ones.
is there anything you absolutely do NOT want brought up?: It's all fair game to me.
is there anything you specifically want him to bring up?: Haruto has something in him called a Phantom. It's called Dragon, and both wants to fight and wants Haruto to give in to despair so that it can get out. It doesn't necessarily have to get brought up, but it's probably an odd enough thing to remark on?
Sam Wilson
what sorts of traumatic canon events would be pick up on about your character?: Most recently would be Steve's death in the arena! Before that, Riley's death, a vast number of wounded soldiers that either didn't make it or were particularly bad, and general war trauma. His dad was also murdered when he was a teenager.
is there anything you absolutely do NOT want brought up?: Nope, go nuts!
is there anything you specifically want him to bring up?: Totally bring up Steve and Riley's deaths, man, let's do it.
Bruce and Aang, spoilers and tw for violence and suicide
do you give permission for cole to read your character's mind?: Yes!
what sorts of traumatic canon events would be pick up on about your character?: Aang's mind will probably be pretty confusing, because if they're in a power's arena, Aang's connected to all his past lives and their traumas might be mixed in there too. Cole would be able to pick up on things like the Air Nomad genocide, being struck by lightning and dying, having one's fiancee's face stolen from her, being betrayed by one's best friend, being told that one is the only one who can save the world (over and over again) and so on. I can give you a more comprehensive list if you don't know much about the canon.
is there anything you absolutely do NOT want brought up?: I'm cool with anything.
is there anything you specifically want him to bring up?: Aang needs to deal with the genocide at some point.
Bruce
do you give permission for cole to read your character's mind?: Yes
what sorts of traumatic canon events would be pick up on about your character?: His father beating his mother, his father hitting him, turning into a monster and putting the woman he loved in the ICU, turning into a monster multiple times only to wake up and realize that he had killed more and more innocent people, struggling to save the lives of various impoverished people only to have them die on the table, dealing with the sufferers of various medical hazards of many of the places he'd been in (parasites, aftermath of cartel warfare, aftermath of botched female circumcisions, plague, AIDS, et cetera), so on and so forth. Top of the list, though, would be putting a bullet in his mouth and waking up afterwards realizing he'll never be able to die.
is there anything you absolutely do NOT want brought up?: We should probably avoid bringing up too much about the family life, since that's my headcanon and not necessarily canon for MCU. I'm happy to have it alluded to, though.
is there anything you specifically want him to bring up?: Anything you feel is relevant. The suicide attempt should probably be talked about at some point, since he is still wondering if he should kill himself now in the Capitol since it might be his only chance to die and stay dead.
BIG HERO 6 SPOILERS HERE
what sorts of traumatic canon events would be pick up on about your character?: His parents died when he was three, but THE BIG ONE is the explosion that killed his beloved older brother Tadashi very recently. Cole is also welcome to ask about Baymax.
is there anything you absolutely do NOT want brought up?: nope!
is there anything you specifically want him to bring up?: Talking about Tadashi and healing would be a really important, sweet conversation for them to have I think. :'c
Adella
what sorts of traumatic canon events would be pick up on about your character?: Well, you know the canon. The core differences being that she did In Hushed Whispers, so trauma involving the deaths of all her people and watching her inner circle sacrifice themselves for her to get back to the past. I mean, you could also go into my headcanon stuff with her being disowned by her parents to the circle that was traumatizing.
is there anything you absolutely do NOT want brought up?: nah
is there anything you specifically want him to bring up?: Whatever comes up, really. I'm good with whatever.
